What does it mean to you that salvation is “the gift of God” (Eph. 2:8)?

  1. that Salvation is 100% God and 0% of man. God provides what He requires for salvation. Salvation is accomplished by the power of God. The Father elected a fixed number, the Son covenented to die for the same number and the Holy Spirit pledged to effective bring Christ s death to this chosen number by giveing them faith and repentance.

  2. Gifts are not things we attain because of what we do. Let's think about birthdays...what did you do on your birthday? You were born-you didn't labor (that was your mother's job!). And yet we give and receive birthday gifts to mark this milestone every year. It's not something that you have any control over, it's something that happened.

  3. Very good point Michelle. I liken our physical birth to the rebirth promised by the Holy Spirit. My mother did not ask me if I wanted to be born and neither does the Holy Spirit....And just as we give gifts that flow out of love for that person, the gift of salvation flows from His love for His people.
